Inspiration

Recently I've been getting the same question from a lot of people..."Where do you get your inspiration?" So, here it is: I decided to start sewing while I was pregnant with our second son, Brady. I had been desperately searching every store, online and in real life, for matching "Big Brother"/"Little Brother" shirts. With absolutely no luck, I decided I would make shirts for my little guys and as you can see in the picture, this is what I came up with.
Unlike the other shirts I have to offer at Avy's, these shirts took a LOOONG time to make but I'm pretty sure that was mostly due to the fact that I had a giant belly and sitting at the sewing machine wasn't the most comfortable thing to do! I really loved the way these turned out though. I might have to make them in a larger size so they have them to wear this winter too.
Anyhow, there ya go...my inspiration comes from my boys:)

Shew! What a week!

Ok, so it's been a while since I last updated this blog. Sorry about that! It's been super busy around here this week. Little B had his 4 month appointment this week and besides being a big, healthy baby (yay!), he had lots of shots. Needless to say, he wasn't a happy camper for a couple of days!

Even though I've been MIA this week I have been working on a few projects. The first was a Halloween tutu which I am totally in love with! Seriously, I wish I had a little girl of my own to wear this thing. It's made from three different colors of tulle-black, orange, and dark purple and then has coordinating ribbon throughout. It would make a great addition to a little girl's witch costume! I'm working on a few designs for Halloween shirts right now and I plan on making a few to match the tutu as well as a few boy designs, so stay tuned! If you have any ideas or would like to see a certain design on a shirt, just let me know!

Another project I was working on this week was a skirt for myself. I made a pattern off of another skirt I own and all in all, it turned out pretty well. Check out the picture so you can see for yourself:)

Almost!

What a day! Well, I didn't completely finish all of the shirts I had planned on finishing today, however, that's only because I don't have the correct color thread needed to finish. So, I guess I'll have to go out to the fabric store tomorrow, darn! (hehe)

I did, however, completely finish two shirts, both with which I am very pleased! The first was an initial shirt to match a tutu I had made. The second was an Ivan the Inchworm onesie. At the request of the customer, I added an inchworm face to the booty. I must say, I love it! It's so adorable! Who doesn't like a cute face or saying on a diaper tush? :)
Check it out for yourself! All of these are available in my etsy shop!

We've got worms!

Haha...well, not really..but they sure are taking up a lot of space on our kitchen table! Today I'm working on four, that's right-FOUR shirts! (Usually I work on only two at a time while trying to take care of kids, the house, and the husband :) ) As you can see from the picture, the one closest is another Ivan the Inchworm. I cut him out last night and still need to heat fuse him in place. The next two shirts are the newest addition to the inchworm family- Iona the Inchworm, the girly version of Ivan. The shirt farthest from the camera, in purple, is an initial shirt that has already been heat fused and pinned and is now awaiting sewing. It will be matching a tutu that I've been working on. Stayed tuned to see if all this sewing can actually be accomplished in one day! (or if I just totally lose my mind, haha)

Meet Ivan the Inchworm!

Introducing the newest addition to Avy's- Ivan the Inchworm! I'm so excited to be introducing this adorable little design. Just like my other designs, this applique is heat fused to the onesie and has a straight stitch around each circle. The buttons and antennas have been hand sewn. This design is being offered in a variety of fabric colors/designs. Just let me know what you're looking for and I can get to work on an Ivan for your little one!

Happy 4th of July!

I've been busy sewing all morning and I was able to get this adorable tie onesie finished just in time for the 4th! Available in any fabric design you'd like, and sewn on with a zig-zag stitch, this onesie will look adorable on the baby boy in your life.

And so it began!

Inspired by my two boys, I decided to start sewing and opened Avy's after I was unable to find the exact pieces of clothing I was looking for in any retail store for a reasonable price. Opening Avy's has allowed me to use my creativity to make quality custom outfits, including applique shirts and tutus. In the near future I'm also planning to make dresses for baby girls and toddlers!...Have I mentioned I have boys? If I can't have girls, I'll just make cute girl things! haha:)

Whatever you might be looking for for your little one, let me know! I work closely with each and every customer to ensure their satisfactions. I love unique custom orders!

Be sure to check back with this page and my etsy shop often, as I will be adding new items on a weekly basis!
